Restoring a Legacy: Acer Volunteers Give Back at United Way’s “Day of Caring”

已複製

In October 2024, Acer employees in Temple, Texas, came together to participate in the United Way "Day of Caring," an annual initiative aimed at strengthening community ties organized by the charity organization. This year, 18 Acer volunteers revitalized a dining facility at the historic Bluebonnet Shores Girl Scout Camp (formerly Camp Kachina), ensuring it serves as a nurturing space for future leaders. Their efforts not only restored a cherished site but also preserved a piece of local history, aligning with Acer's commitment to sustainability. The project transformed a 60-year-old building through simple yet impactful renovations such as a new paint job, making it both functional and visually appealing without the need for complete reconstruction, thereby reducing waste and conserving resources.

Acer’s involvement in this project reflects its long-standing partnership with the United Way and its dedication to sustainable cities and communities. By restoring a 60-year-old building rather than tearing it down and rebuilding it, Acer helped reduce waste and conserve resources, aligning with the Acer’s “Go Green” and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives. A simple paint job transformed a worn-down structure into a functional and aesthetically pleasing space that fit in well with the landscape and other buildings in the area, preserving a piece of local history while minimizing environmental impact.

This activity not only transformed the physical environment but also provided volunteers with opportunities to learn about teamwork, resilience, and improving craftsmanship skills. While learning proper painting techniques, Acer employees deepened their understanding and appreciation of community service, fostering strong camaraderie in the process. Moreover, the "Day of Caring" further solidified Acer's role as a community partner, enhancing relationships with local customers, businesses, schools, and other organizations.

The Girl Scout camp is dedicated to developing and mentoring young women to be honest, fair, friendly, and helpful as well as responsible and respectful using resources wisely and making the world a better place. It’s estimated that over 100 Girl Scouts will benefit from the renovations to the dining facility at the camp. Acer, as one of the Forbes Top Companies for Women, is proud to support organizations like the Girl Scouts who will grow to be members of our local community and its surrounding areas.

Helping with the upkeep of the grounds of Bluebonnet Shores Girl Scouts shows how Acer cares about not only the current but the future generations of girls in our community. Bluebonnet Shores is a safe haven for girls to grow into strong and independent women who will in turn make our world a better place.
