Acer Delivers Warmth and Care for the Elderly with Festive Meals

已複製

On January 25, 2025, volunteers from Acer’s headquarters in Taiwan, along with their family members, participated in the "Embracing the Elderly with Love – Warm New Year Meals" initiative. This marks the 15th consecutive year that Acer employees have taken part in this heartwarming tradition. Even during the pandemic, they remained unwavering in their commitment, turning this act of kindness into an integral part of Acer’s corporate culture. This year, the team of volunteers once again drove to the districts of Xizhi, Shenkeng, and Shiding in northern Taiwan, personally delivering hot meals and heartfelt care before the Lunar New Year to the elderly living alone, ensuring they feel the warmth of the festive season and are not left in solitude during the cold winter.

Lunar New Year is a time for family reunions, yet for many elderlies who live alone or are in vulnerable situations, this warmth can be hard to come by. To ensure they do not feel isolated during this special time, Acer volunteers not only delivered hot meals but also shared their presence and care, bringing a sense of belonging. This year, 47 employees and their family members enthusiastically participated in the event, mobilizing 17 vehicles to deliver 70 festive meal packages to the elderly. Volunteers with cars generously offered transportation to different locations to personally deliver the meals, while others joined as goodwill ambassadors, ensuring the mission was completed with teamwork and dedication. This year’s meals were once again prepared by students from the Yuda High School Culinary Department, who, under the guidance of their teachers, started cooking early in the morning, pouring their hearts into every dish. Beyond just delivering meals, our volunteers engaged with the elderly, chatting, putting up spring festival couplets, sharing festive greetings, singing traditional New Year songs, and giving small gifts and red envelopes to enhance the festive spirit.

As Taiwan transitions into a super-aged society, changing family structures have made it increasingly vital to provide companionship and care for the elderly, particularly during the year’s end. Acer’s volunteers have been actively supporting the "Warm New Year Meals for Elderly Living Alone" initiative of Old Five Old Foundation for years. The initiative not only promotes a culture of kindness within the company, encouraging employees and their families to participate, but also aspires to inspire more people to extend their care to those in need. Acer hopes that through active engagement, children will learn the value of giving, passing on the spirit of love from generation to generation and foster a cycle of positive energy in society. Even the smallest act of kindness can make the wintery days of the year warmer for the elderly and contribute to a more compassionate world.

Looking back over the past decade, participating in the "Embracing the Elderly with Love – Warm New Year Meals" initiative, organized by Acer and the Old Five Old Foundation, has become my first and most heartwarming tradition at the start of every Lunar New Year holiday. This initiative is not just about caring for elderly individuals living alone—it is also a profound exchange of warmth and a deeply moving experience.

Mother Teresa once said, "The seeds of love must be sown by hand, one at a time." From the time my children were in kindergarten, I have been bringing them along to deliver New Year meals to the elderly at the end of each year. Now, as they approach graduation from high school, this has become a cherished family tradition before every Lunar New Year. What started as a simple desire to give back to society has, over time, revealed something unexpected—the greatest reward of giving is not what we offer to others, but what we receive in return.
