As a member of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition (GEC), Acer supports collaborative initiatives that strengthen education systems worldwide. As one such initiative, the 5G Smart School project in Italy demonstrated Acer’s commitment to responsible innovation and inclusive growth through its active contribution to digital education. In recognition of its impact, the 5G Smart School project was featured in the UNESCO GEC 2024 report, highlighting its relevance as a scalable model for inclusive, technology‑enabled learning.

Launched in September 2022 and concluding in June 2023, the project addressed the growing need for equitable access to digital education, particularly in underserved communities. Its objective was to help prepare students for the future by strengthening digital, social, and entrepreneurial skills, while enabling teachers to adopt innovative and effective teaching methodologies aligned with the evolving digital landscape.

Implemented across Italy, the initiative provided no‑cost educational resources designed to reduce STEM gaps, promote gender equality, and foster inclusive learning environments. Partnering with WeSchool and Qualcomm, Acer supported the deployment of the 5G Smart School pilot in four Italian schools. To enhance classroom experiences, the project provided fast 5G connectivity, Acer devices, and targeted training for educators on innovative, technology‑driven approaches to teaching and learning.

The program delivered measurable and scalable outcomes. By the end of the first cycle, it reached 169,158 students, 17,770 teachers, and 2,536 classes across Italy. Continuous feedback collected from teachers and students informed ongoing improvements to content and delivery, supporting the expansion of enhanced educational resources across Italy and their introduction to new schools in Europe.

For society, the 5G Smart School project contributed to reducing the digital divide and expanding access to quality education. By strengthening digital literacy, supporting STEM education, and promoting gender equality and inclusion, the initiative helped build more resilient education systems and improve long‑term social and economic participation.

We were proud to join the 5G Smart School program, equipping participating schools with our devices and helping students and teachers benefit from technology that meaningfully improved the learning experience.

Everybody was equal, everybody had something to give to the others. The skills they used during the program were not the usual skills that you are asked to use in your daily life at school.
