Computer Health Check Event

已複製

For the first time, Acer’s headquarters in Taiwan held a computer health check event to provide employees with a convenient way to bring in their own computers, regardless of brand, and have them professionally checked and serviced. It was a great way to boost new life into these devices, often left idle at home or were intended to be discarded for new ones, achieving the goal of reusing resources.

During the event, Acer invited the professional service team from Highpoint Service Network (HSN), its subsidiary with nearly 20 years of maintenance experience. They provided free cleaning and diagnostic services not just for Acer computers but also for other brands and DIY computers. The engineers thoroughly cleaned each computer and performed hardware and software diagnostics to help employees understand the condition of their devices. They also offered specific upgrade recommendations for various components, such as replacing hard drives, adding memory, or cleaning cooling systems. These small fixes could revive a computer, extending its life and significantly enhancing its performance.

The event helped employees gain a clearer understanding of computer upgrade options. The engineers discussed the potential performance enhancements from different hardware upgrades and emphasized the importance of energy-saving and carbon reduction. For example, replacing components with low-energy versions not only speeds up performance but also reduces electricity consumption and indirectly decreases carbon emissions. With these efforts, the Acer hoped to make every employee realize the positive environmental impact of minor upgrade decisions, embodying the green philosophy of "Every decision counts!"

The event not only raised awareness among employees about environmental protection and computer maintenance but also revealed to many that their old, unused home computers could still operate efficiently with proper upgrades and maintenance. This not only effectively reduced electronic waste but also saved employees the cost of buying new equipment. By promoting the sustainable use of resources and carbon reduction among employees, the event successfully advanced the goal of making carbon reduction simple and collective under the motto, "With you and me, reducing carbon becomes easy."

In an era where the volume of electronic waste continues to reach new highs, I was pleased to bring my laptop with diminishing battery performance to participate in the check-up event. This initiative extended the life of my laptop, delaying its transformation into electronic waste. It helps reduce the need to purchase new products, thus lessening our reliance on natural resources and contributing modestly to preventing the overexploitation of global resources.

Corporate Sustainability Manager, Acer Inc.

As a member of the organizing team for the computer health check event, I deeply appreciate the significance and value of the event for our colleagues. Our technical team devotedly inspected and serviced the computer equipment and patiently addressed various computer-related issues. The event also offered self-paid options for memory and storage upgrades, providing additional upgrade discounts to further enhance device performance. For us, this event was not just about providing technical services; it was also an opportunity to interact and connect with our colleagues, strengthening our mutual bonds.

Technical Engineer, HSN

I was honored to support the computer health check event. My primary role was to assist colleagues with the comprehensive system diagnostics of their computers, assessing CPU, memory, system, and hard disk usage using my professional skills. Based on these diagnostics, I helped users understand the condition of their computers, advising on regular checks and optimization techniques to minimize unnecessary energy consumption, extend the lifespan of the devices, and reduce resource wastage. Participating in this event was immensely beneficial to me; it deepened my understanding of how to implement sustainability in everyday work and reminded me that even small individual actions can have a positive impact on the environment. I'm genuinely delighted to have been a part of this initiative.
