Why Antimicrobial?

Thousands of microbes are able to attach to the surface of electronic devices and with every tap, touch or swipe, lead to potential contact or exposure. Since we spend so much time with our PCs at home and at work, knowing how to keep the surfaces clean and as protected as possible is a growing concern in today’s environment that demands a solution.

At Acer, we have implemented a number of antimicrobial solutions that extend to the surface of the chassis, the touchscreen, top cover, keyboard, and touchpad. With this type of implementation, your device can stay cleaner longer and will not require regular alcohol scrubbing or specialized covers.

Silver-Ion Coating for Surfaces1

A BPR & EPA-compliant silver-ion antimicrobial agent in the coating on the surface of chassis, keyboard, hinge, fingerprint reader – even labels – is proven to show a consistent [3 log (>99.9%)2] microbial reduction rate against a broad range of bacteria under the JIS Z 2801 & ISO 22196 test protocol. The rubber feet are also made of a silver-ion based antimicrobial material.

Antimicrobial Corning® Gorilla® Glass3

For displays as well as touchpads4, by incorporating silver ions (Ag+) as the antimicrobial agent into Corning® Gorilla® Glass, the glass surface can stay cleaner longer and less susceptible to odor-causing bacteria. This is done via trace amounts of silver ions leaching to the glass surface to eliminate the surface bacteria while still offering other benefits such as improved durability and improved scratch resistance.
