Hard drive installation instructions for Predator PH315-52

This article only applies to: Predator PH315-52 models. The Predator PH315-52 includes a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" (7mm) hard drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. Remove the ten (10) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. Start at the rear vents and pry apart to release the clips securing the lower case. Work your way around the product to release all of the clips, then remove the lower case. Install the Hard Drive cable and mounting bracket as shown on the image below. These parts were included in the package with your Helios 300. Align and install the hard drive module into its slot and make sure the rubber guides align with the notches in the chassis. The hard drive bay is located to the left of the battery as shown in the image in step 6. Lift up on the hard drive connector latch, then insert the hard drive cable and press down on the latch to secure it. Reinstall the lower case and press down around the edges to snap it in place, then reinstall the ten (10) lower case screws.

Change keyboard backlight settings on the Predator Helios PH315-52

What keyboard backlight settings are possible on the Predator PH315-52? The Predator PH315-52 comes with a keyboard that has blue LED backlighting. There is not a way to change the color of the keyboard backlighting. Use the instructions below to adjust your backlight to your desired settings. Turn off the keyboard backlight: Hold the Fn key, and press the F9 key four times to turn the backlight off. Your keyboard backlight should dim each time you press the F9 key while holding FN . Increase backlight brightness: Hold the Fn key, and press the F10 key to dim the backlight. Your keyboard backlight should brighten each time you press the F10 key while holding FN . Decrease backlight brightness: Hold the Fn key, and press the F9 key to dim the backlight. Your keyboard backlight should dim each time you press the F10 key while holding FN . Turn backlight off after 30 seconds: Press the Predator key above the number pad, then click the Settings icon . Move the toggle for "Backlight off after 30 seconds" to the off position. Disable the system boot sound and animation feature for the Predator Helios 300 model (PH315-52)

How do I turn off the sound that plays when the system first boots up? There are two ways you can disable the Predator startup sound and animation. Method 1: Press the PredatorSense key located above the number pad. Click the Settings icon . Move the toggle for "System boot animation and sound" to the off position. Method 2: Press and hold the Power key to completely shut down your computer. Power the system on and press the F2 key when the Predator screen appears to enter the BIOS. Use the right arrow key to select Main tab. Use the down arrow key to select POST Animation & Sound , then press Enter and use the down arrow to select Disabled . Press Enter . Press F10 , then select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

Can I overclock the CPU on the Predator Helios 300?

This can happen while watching video or using any application. Restarting the computer may result in a black screen with the keyboard backlight on. SOLUTION Acer has released BIOS version 1.15 to resolve this issue. Visit the Drivers and Manuals section of the Acer support website. Enter your Serial Number/SNID or search for your product by Model. Select BIOS/Firmware. Click the Download link for the file you want to download (BIOS version 1.15 or later). Unzip the file and double-click DH53F115.exe to install the BIOS update. The issue should be resolved once the new BIOS is installed. SSD Firmware update is recommended to improve system stability on some models

You can check the firmware of your SSD drive to see if your system would benefit from this update. Use the steps below to check the firmware and download the update. Check SSD Firmware: Type Device Manager in the Windows search box, and select Device Manager from the search results. Double-click on Disk Drives . Right-click on the SSD drive and select Properties . Select the Details tab. In the drop down list labeled Property, choose Hardware Ids . If your firmware matches the screenshot below, proceed to the steps below to download and install the updated firmware. Intel® Microarchitectural Data Sampling Vulnerabilities in Modern Processors

CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-12130, and CVE-2019-11091 On May 14, 2019, Intel® and other industry partners shared details and information about a new group of vulnerabilities collectively called Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS). MDS (some media refer to it as “ZombieLoad”, “RIDL”, and “Fallout”) is a sub-class of previously disclosed speculative execution side channel vulnerabilities and is comprised of four related techniques. Under certain conditions, MDS provides a program the potential means to read data that program otherwise would not be able to see. MDS techniques are based on a sampling of data leaked from small structures within the CPU using a locally executed speculative execution side channel. Practical exploitation of MDS is a very complex undertaking. MDS does not, by itself, provide an attacker with a way to choose the data that is leaked. How to Change the Predator Boot Animation Logo in PredatorSense

Some predator models allow you to change the boot animation logo that appears whenever you boot up your Predator device. You can use the instructions below to change the boot logo in PredatorSense. PredatorSense software does not open properly

What can I do if my PredatorSense software will not launch properly? If your PredatorSense software is not opening or only displays a black screen, change the startup type to Manual using the instructions below. Press CTRL + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager . Click the Services tab. Right-click on the PredatorSense service PSSvc , then select Open Services . Right-click on the Predator Service , then select Properties . Change Startup type to Manual and select Ok . Restart your computer and launch the PredatorSense software.
