Mei-Yueh Ho is currently a national policy advisor to the President and Chairperson of the Science and Technology Interchange Committee, Taiwan - Japan Relations Association.
Ho has worked as a civil servant in Taiwan for over 30 years, with a primary focus on economic affairs and development. She was the Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan from 2004 to 2006 and the Chairperson of the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Taiwan from 2007 to May 2008. During her tenure as Chairperson, Ho was involved in the formulation of vital national policies and strategies, including the National Development Plan and the Biotechnology Industry Development Project for Taiwan.
Throughout Ho’s three decades in public office, her key contributions include representing Taiwan in WTO negotiations for the industrial sector; drafting key policy blueprints, including the knowledge economy plan, the six-year national development plan, Taiwan's overall manufacturing blueprint, and more. She took part in economic development projects, such as promoting the biotechnology industry, establishing a global operations center and an innovation center, and a NT$20 billion public service expansion plan. Ho contributed to the revision of economic and trade laws, including the Establishment and Management of Free Trade Zones Act, the Business Mergers and Acquisitions Act, the Financing Company Act, the Clauses of the Real Estate Securitization Act, formulating the Regulations of the Industrialization Act and related sub-acts, and the revision of the former Investment Incentive Act.
In addition, Ho oversaw Taiwan’s industrial product tariff, implemented policies to rationalize tariff rate structure and simplify tax refunding, drafted a Manufacturing Investment Acceleration and Upgrading Plan, and formulating subsidy measures for leading new products and traditional industries.
After retiring from the government, Ho serves as independent directors of ASE Technology Holding Inc. and Center Laboratories Inc., and director of Kinpo Electronics Inc.
Ho graduated from National Taiwan University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Chemistry (Life Sciences).
