Hard drive installation instructions for Acer Aspire Nitro 5
This article only applies to: Nitro AN515-31, AN515-41, AN515-42, AN515-51, AN515-52 and AN515-53 models The Aspire Nitro 5 series includes a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" hard drive or solid state drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. Remove the screw securing the hard drive door to the lower case, and remove the door by lifting at the cut corner. Install the new hard drive in the hard drive module using the four screws included. Note: If there is no hard drive module present, please contact Acer support . Connect the hard drive cable to the new hard drive. Align and install the hard drive module into its slot on the lower case. Attach the four screws to secure the hard drive module to the lower case. Align the hard drive door latches in the slots on the lower case and press the hard drive door firmly until it is fully seated. Secure the hard drive door with the screw you removed in step one.
How to Shut Down or Put Your Acer Nitro 5 to Sleep
Your Acer Nitro 5 allows you to put it to sleep so you can quickly resume your work, or completely shut it off if you do not plan on using it for a while or want to take it on the go. There are several options available to let you quickly put your computer in standby, or turn it off completely. How to put your Acer Nitro 5 to sleep If you need to power down the computer for a short while, but do not want to completely shut it down, you can put it to sleep by doing any of the following: Press the Power button on the top right of your keyboard. Press the Sleep hotkey (FN + F4) . Press Start ⊞ and select Power > Sleep . Right-click the Windows Start ⊞ button and select Shut down or sign out > Sleep . How to completely shut down or power off your Acer Nitro 5 If you want to completely shut down your Nitro 5 you can use any of the methods below. Use the Windows shutdown command: Press Start ⊞ and select Power > Shutdown . Right-click the Windows Start ⊞ button and select Shut down or sign out > Sleep. Note: If you cannot power off the computer normally, press and hold the Power button for up to ten seconds to shut down the computer. If you turn off the computer and want to turn it on again, wait at least two seconds before powering up.
Hard drive installation instructions for the Acer Nitro AN515-54
This article only applies to: Nitro AN515-54 models The Nitro AN515-54 includes a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" hard drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. Remove the AC adapter and press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to completely shut down your computer. Remove the eleven (11) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. Begin removing the lower case as shown in the image below. You may need to use a plastic pry tool designed to work on electronics to get started. Work your way around the system to release all of the plastic clips that hold the lower case in place, then lift up on the lower case to remove it. Disconnect the battery from the mainboard. Install the hard drive carrier onto the hard drive and attach the 4 screws to secure it in place. Connect the hard drive cable to the hard drive. Align and install the hard drive module into the empty slot next to the battery. Attach the (4) screws to secure the hard drive module. Lift up on the hard drive connector latch to open it, then connect the hard drive cable to the mainboard connector and push the latch down to secure it. Reconnect the battery to the mainboard. Reinstall the lower case and press down to make sure all of the plastic clips are secure. Reinstall the 11 screws to secure the lower case.
Hard Drive Installation Instructions for the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 and AN515-55
Some Nitro 5 models include a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" hard drive or solid state drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note : Acer recommends wearing an anti-static grounding strap when adding hardware to your system. 1) Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. 2) Remove the eleven (11) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. 3) Begin removing the lower case as shown in the image below. You may need to use a plastic pry tool designed to work on electronics to get started. 4) Work your way around the system to release all of the plastic clips that hold the lower case in place, then lift up the lower case to remove it. 5) Disconnect the battery. 6) Install the hard drive carrier onto the hard drive and secure it in place with the 4 screws. 7) Connect the hard drive cable to the hard drive. 8) Align and install the hard drive module into its slot on the upper case. 9) Secure the hard drive module to the upper case with the four (4) screw. (Screw torque force = 1.8~2.2kgf.cm) 10) Connect the hard drive cable to the mainboard connector and close the latch. 11) Re-connect the battery to the mainboard to restore power to the system. 12) Align the lower case on the upper case and press down firmly around the edges to secure the latches. You may hear a light clicking sound when they snap into place. 13) Secure the lower case with the eleven (11) screws you removed in step 2. (Screw torque force = 2.55~3.0kgf.cm)
How to Use the Acer Nitro 5 Precision Touchpad
The touchpad controls the mouse cursor on the screen. As you slide your finger across the touchpad, the cursor will follow this movement. The Precision Touchpad (PTP) is designed to provide a more uniform, smooth, and accurate touchpad experience. The precision touchpad includes added technology features that help recognize and prevent unintentional gestures such as accidental taps, gestures, and pointer movement. Many applications support precision touchpad gestures that use one or more fingers, however, some gestures may not be supported by the specific application or program you are using. The Nitro 5 touchpad supports the following gestures: Note: The touchpad is sensitive to finger movement; the lighter the touch, the better the response. Please keep the touchpad and your fingers dry and clean. Single-finger slide Slide a finger across the touchpad to move the cursor. Single-finger press or tap Press the touchpad down, or lightly tap the touchpad with your finger, to perform a 'click', which will select or start an item. Quickly repeat the tap to perform a double tap or 'double click'. Two-finger press Lightly tap the touchpad with two fingers to perform a 'right click'. In the Start screen, this will toggle the app commands. In most apps this will open a context menu related to the selected item. Two-finger slide Swiftly scroll through web pages, documents and playlists by placing two fingers on the touchpad and moving both in any direction. Two-finger pinch Zoom in and out of photos, maps and documents with a simple finger-and-thumb gesture. Three-finger press Lightly tap the touchpad with three fingers to open the Search windows. Three-finger swipe Swipe across the touchpad with three fingers. Swipe up to open Task View . Move the cursor over a window and tap the touchpad to select that window, or swipe downwards to exit Task View . Swipe down to minimize all open windows and show Desktop ; swipe upwards to restore the minimized windows. Swipe right to switch between open windows. How to Turn Acer Nitro 5 Touchpad On and Off
Your Nitro 5 includes keyboard function keys that allow you to quickly turn your touchpad on or off. Click on Devices in the left-hand menu. Select Touchpad from the list of devices in the right-hand menu. Click on the toggle next to Touchpad to move it to the Off position. How to disable your touchpad with function keys Depending on your Nitro 5 model, you can use the key combination FN + F2 or FN + F7 to toggle your touchpad off or on. How to Backup Acer Nitro 5 Wireless and LAN drivers
You may want to back up your wireless and LAN drivers if you want to install another operating system, or if you just would like to have them around in case you encounter any issues. The Acer Recovery Manager software allows you to easily make a backup of these drivers. Click on Start ⊞ and click on All apps > to see a list of applications. Select Acer Care Center. Click on Recovery Management . Select the Backup tab and click on Get started for Backup wireless and LAN drivers . Choose a folder to save your drivers and select OK . You will be shown the backup progress on the screen. Note: You can download Wireless and LAN drivers for you model from the Acer Support Site .
How to Connect an Xbox Controller to Your Acer Nitro 5
You can connect an Xbox controller to your Nitro 5 if you prefer gaming with a controller over using a keyboard and mouse. Turn on your Xbox controller by pressing the Xbox button. Press and hold the Sync button on the top of the controller until the Xbox logo begins to flash. On your computer, click on Add Bluetooth or other device and then select Bluetooth . Wait until your Xbox controller appears on the list, then click on it to pair your Xbox controller to your computer.
Acer Nitro may not power on if AC adapter is not fully inserted
Why is my new Nitro 5 not turning on? Acer Nitro systems, that have the AC adapter connection on the back of the computer, use an improved AC adapter connection that helps secure the AC adapter. The adapter may feel like it is fully inserted, but requires a secondary push to fully seat the connection. You should hear a slight click when the AC adapter is fully inserted. Once the adapter is connected, make sure you orient it horizontally so it does not interfere with tilting this display as shown in the image below.

Microsoft camera application shows a black screen after installing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (1803)
This article only applies to: Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-53) SYMPTOMS The Microsoft camera application may only show a black screen after installing the Windows 10 April 2018 update. Other camera applications like Skype should still work properly. SOLUTION Acer is working with Microsoft to qualify a new video driver to address this issue. The new video driver will be included as a Windows critical update when it is available. The driver will also be posted on our Acer Drivers and Manuals page when it is available.

Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. Remove the twelve (12) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. Begin removing the lower case as shown in the image below. You may need to use a plastic pry tool designed to work on electronics to get started. Work your way around the system to release all of the plastic clips that hold the lower case in place, then lift up on the lower case to remove it. Disconnect the battery. Install the hard drive carrier onto the hard drive and attach the 4 screws to secure it in place. Connect the hard drive cable to the hard drive. Align and install the hard drive module into its slot on the upper case. Attach the four (4) screws to secure the hard drive module to the upper case. Connect the hard drive cable to the mainboard connector and secure the latch. Connect the battery. Align the lower case and press firmly around the sides to snap it into place. Install the twelve (12) screws to secure the lower case.

The Nitro AN517-54 includes a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" SATA 7mm hard drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. 1) Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. 2) Remove the twelve (12) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. 3) Starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, following the direction arrow. 4) Work your way around the lower case to continue releasing the remaining latches, then remove the lower case. 5) Connect the hard drive cable to the hard drive module connector. 6) Align and install the hard drive module into its slot on the upper case. 7) Attach the four (4) screws to secure the hard drive module to the upper case. ( Screw torque force = 1.8~2.2kgf.cm) 8) Connect the hard drive cable to the mainboard connector and secure the latch. 9) Align and install the lower case on the upper case starting with the bottom side first. 10) Press firmly the side latches until they snapped into place. 11) Install the twelve (12) screws to secure the lower case. (Screw torque force = 2.55~3.0kgf.cm)

The Nitro AN515-57 includes a storage bay that allows for installation of a secondary 2.5" SATA 7mm hard drive. Use the steps below to install a secondary drive in your system. Note: Acer recommends use of an anti-static wrist strap when adding hardware to your system. 1) Remove the AC adapter and make sure your system is completely powered off. 2) Remove the eleven (11) screws securing the lower case to the upper case. 3) Starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, following the direction arrow. 4) Continue releasing the remaining latches. Then remove the lower case. 5) Connect the hard drive cable to the hard drive module connector. 6) Align and install the hard drive module into its slot on the upper case. 7) Attach the four (4) screws to secure the hard drive module to the upper case. (Screw torque force = 1.8~2.2kgf.cm) 8) Connect the hard drive cable to the mainboard connector and secure the latch. 9) Align and install the lower case on the upper case. 10) Press firmly the upper side edges until they snapped into place. 11) Continue pressing firmly the remaining upper side latches until they snapped into place. 12) Press firmly the side latches until they snapped into place. 13) Attach the eleven (11) screws to secure the lower case. (Screw torque force = 2.55~3.0kgf.cm)

How to Download and Install Acer NitroSense Software
NitroSense software allows you to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures, as well as adjust fan speed and power plan settings for optimal performance. NitroSense is preinstalled on all Nitro laptops, but you can download the software from our support site if it is not working or if it has been uninstalled. Choose your model by entering your Serial number, SNID or model number. Click on Application. Click the download link for the Acer NitroSense software. Extract the Zip file.
